The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra, through its Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit and in cooperation with the Student Activities Division, organized a humanitarian visit to the Al-Baraem Orphanage. A number of faculty members and students participated in the visit, which was part of the college's community outreach programs aimed at promoting a culture of volunteerism and community service.
The visit included providing logistical support to the children, as well as conducting dental examinations, including early detection of oral and dental problems. The students also received consultations and health guidance related to oral hygiene, methods of preventing cavities and gum disease, and other practices that contribute to raising the children's health awareness.
The initiative aims to instill the principle of social solidarity and strengthen students' sense of humanity by engaging them in field activities that contribute to honing their professional skills and developing their social responsibility. It also aims to utilize the college's academic expertise to serve those most in need of care.
The college deanship confirmed that these activities are in line with the University of Basra’s directions in supporting volunteer work and activating the role of academic institutions in achieving sustainable community development, stressing the continuation of organizing similar initiatives that contribute to building bridges of human communication between the university and community institutions.
