The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Basra, organized a workshop on “The History of Ancient Civilizations in Iraq,” attended by faculty members and students.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of studying ancient Iraqi civilizations as some of the oldest and most significant in the world, as well as their role in establishing the human cultural heritage.
The workshop, presented by faculty members from the Department of History, covered several topics related to the civilizations that arose in Iraq, beginning with the Sumerian civilization, then the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian, and continuing through subsequent historical periods. The focus was on the chronological order of these civilizations and their most significant achievements.
The presenters also discussed the cultural, political, and economic characteristics of each civilization, their influence on neighboring civilizations, and the most important archaeological discoveries that have contributed to understanding the historical sequence
