The aim of this study is to design innovative, adjustable and implantable drug regimens for transdermal topical therapy to develop treatment for CNS(central nervous system) disorders such as epilepsy . A biodegradable conductive polymeric membranes loaded with carbamazepine(CBZ,5H-dibenzo[b,f]azepine-5-carboxamide)by electrochemical polymerization method were prepared. It is an on-demand electrical delivery system consisting of a biodegradable, conductive polymer and an electric cell . .
Delivery of drugs to the target site provides the ability to improve the therapeutic efficacy of epilepsy drug which may improve the efficiency of drug delivery, bio-distribution, safety of the drug from decomposition by decomposing enzymes and controlling the concentration of the drug in the body. Consequently, a reduction in side effects compared to conventional dosage forms. This has stimulated research and development for local delivery of drugs. The release of the drug is controlled by electrical stimulation because the electric field allows control of the amount of drug released once the drug is applied electric voltage. Conductive gel membranes were prepared from poly pyrrole and Chitosan (Non-steroid Anti-Inflammatory Drug NSAID) , contaminated with Carbamazepine as medicinal material for epilepsy by
electrochemical polymerization and the manner as controlled drug delivery systems of electric impulse, the effect of applied voltage potential on the released medicine were studied. The results showed a liberated amount of medication can be controlled by adjusting the applied voltage and the liberation movement from conductive gel polymers are subject to mechanical first order mechanism rank according to the deployment mechanism.
