The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basra discussed a master’s thesis on the anti-cancer and antioxidant properties of the polysaccharide fraction of a medicinal plant by microwave-assisted extraction technique.
The thesis presented by the researcher (Haneen Khaled Thuwaini) included the preparation of poly-sugar extract and silver nanoparticles for poly-sugar from Ziziphus spina-christi (L) leaves using the microwave-assisted extraction method. Analyze and characterize the polysaccharides and polysaccharide silver nanoparticles of Sidr leaves using FT-IR, SEM-EDS, and furthermore, silver nanoparticles characterize using TEM and XRD. A preliminary examination was conducted to test the toxicity of polysaccharides and silver nanoparticles of polysaccharides from Sidr leaves against human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCAM) cells, according to the half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of polysaccharides and silver nanoparticles. The effect of IC50 values on the cell cycle, altered ROS level, and programmed death was studied

The silver nanoparticles of Sidr leaves are spherical in shape and have different sizes - 29.8-125.8nm and have a crystalline nature. And silver nanoparticles of Sidr leaves have a higher toxicity activity against human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCAM) cells than polysaccharides itself, through the results of the effect of IC50 values on the cell cycle, changing the level of ROS and programmed death by cell flow technique.

By isolating polysaccharides from Sidr leaves, diagnosing their composition, knowing their constituent monosaccharides, and knowing their molecular weight. Studying the effect and toxicity of polysaccharides and silver nanoparticles of polysaccharides from Sidr leaves on normal cells and on mice carrying liver cancer cells.
