Prof. Dr. Falah Hassan Shari, a teaching professor at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, was chosen as the head of the PhD student discussion committee, Salwan Salem Abdul-Hassa, on his tagged thesis (the effect of genetic polymorphisms of the gene (TCF7L2) rs7903146 and rs12255372 on the therapeutic response to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate
The thesis concluded by studying the effect of the TCF7L2 rs7903146 and rs12255372 genetic polymorphism on the response to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate. The study concluded that fasting blood sugar, insulin, glycosylated hemoglobin, body mass index and insulin resistance decreased. Significantly (p < 0.001), while there was a significant increase in insulin sensitivity (p < 0.001), while there was a significant decrease in the level of triglycerides, cholesterol and lipids.
