The College of Dentistry University of Basrah and the Continuous Education Unit with the cooperation with the Orthodontic\Pedodontics and Dental Prevention Department held a scientific lecture under the title "Medical emergencies in dental clinic."
The lecturer, Assistant. Lecturer. Dr. Hiyam Salah Ahmed, indicated that the urgent medical cases might come across the dentist at any time and may affect not only the patient but the people around him. Most important of which is Syncope which can be caused by fear or anxiety of dental treatment or it may be caused by a Severe hypoglycemia.
The lecturer added that these cases must be dealt with by giving the patient a Glucose solution, but if he continues to suffer from Syncope, attention must be paid to an important point, which is the need to open the breathing Airway, because the lack of oxygen reaching the brain leads to brain damage and some urgent cases may need to transfer the patient to the hospital.
The lecturer, Hiyam Salah Ahmed, Has concluded the scientific lecture with a recommendation to conduct intensive workshops for dentists on how to deal with urgent medical cases that could happen in the dental clinics.
