University of Basrah organizes a panel discussion on the implications of establishing a dam on the Shatt al-Arab
College of Education for Women at University of Basra organized a panel discussion entitled "The positive and negative effects of establishing a dam on the Shatt al-Arab".
The workshop, which was held by Department of Geography and presented by Dr. Iyad Abdul Jalil Mahdi, dealt with the possibilities of establishing the dam at Ras Al-Bisha in Al-Faw and establishing a navigational whis in the Shatt al-Arab to seize fresh water and prevent the incursion and mixing of salt tide in it.
As for the negatives facing the construction of this dam, they are the change in the diversity of life, the deterioration of land salinity south of the dam and the prevention of water blending.
