College of Pharmacy held a seminar about human gene therapy.
College of Pharmacy, University of Basra, held a seminar entitled (Human Gene therapy) presented by Dr. Ahmed Najm Aboud .The seminar included an explanation of several main points such as general introduction , importance and role of this treatment in genetic diseases .The lecturer explained its types , the ways of delivering a beneficial  gene to diseased and cancerous cells and the most important transmitter used, whether it was a viral or non-viral.The lecturer reviewed the most important products that were marketed globally from the beginning of nineties of the last century till now, and the successes it has achieved in human experiments to treat various diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, muscle weakness, congenital blindness and cancer. These therapies are expensive due to the therapeutic value , research periods required to discover, develop and marketing them. These therapies were registered and used in developed countries and the World health organizations .
