The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, University of Basra, discussed a master’s thesis on the study of the state of oxidative stress and non-enzymatic antioxidants in the serum of hypertensive patients in Basra Governorate / Iraq
The study presented by the researcher (Ayat Amer Hassan) included
Determining the concentration of malondialdehyde to know the level of oxidative stress in patients and healthy people and comparing the results according to the factor (gender, age, family history, period of illness, medication and type of diet).
The study concluded
Most of the hypertensive patients suffer from an increase in the concentration of malondialdehyde at a significance level of 0.0001 in the blood serum, meaning that the oxidative stress is very high and a decrease at a significance level of 0.0001 in both glutathione and ceruloplasmin in patients compared to healthy subjects. And an increase in vitamin E in male patients at a significant level 0.01 and a decrease in beta-carotene in women patients at its significance level 0.05
