A specialized medical team was able to perform a special operation for a 36-hour-old patient suffering from diaphragmatic hernia (left side), as she was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit at the age of 12 hours, and after one day, the hernial repair was performed via thoracoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgery) by the Consultant Surgeon of pediatric surgery and Assistant Professor in the Surgery department, College of Medicine - University of Basrah Dr. Abbas Abdulzahra Alhasani with the help of a specialized team of the Basrah Children's Specialty Teaching Hospital staff. Alhassani stated that the patient’s condition after the operation was very good and free from any complications, as the operation wounds were small (4 holes with a diameter of 3 mm for each), and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the fourth day after the operation and was also followed up periodically and she is currently in good health. Thoracoscopic surgery in children is considered one of the advanced surgical procedures, as it is not performed anywhere inside Iraq except in our center as a result of the accumulated experience and training outside Iraq.
