Basra University organized a workshop on how to prepare and cite references for students of the fourth stage of the morning and evening studies in the English language department. The workshop included a lecture given by the teacher in the Department of English Language Eng. Alaa Hussein Sharhan discussed the methods of citing references and organizing them during the process of writing the graduation thesis, focusing on three aspects of inference and citation: internal within the body of the research, quoting from primary and secondary references and how to summarize the ideas of other writers indirectly. The workshop discussed the references contained in the text, how to quote the primary and secondary results, report presentation of what is mentioned in the references, as well as ways to avoid scientific and literary plagiarism. The workshop demonstrated the documentation systems in academic writing, so it included how to review the mention of the writer, the date of publication, the pages cited from it, the method of finding information about the name of the publisher, the place of publication, the name of the publishing city, and other basic matters in organizing the reference page.
