The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Women Empowerment Unit, held a qualitative lecture entitled (Healthy Nutrition to Control Weight Gain) in the presence of a group of faculty, college staff and students.
The lecture, which was lectured by sports nutritionist and fitness trainer Mohamed Radhi, aims to provide a detailed explanation of obesity and weight gain, and to identify its risks and negative impact on public health, as well as to encourage physical activity to maintain a healthy body and prevent obesity.
The lecturer pointed out that the use of medications may lead to obesity and a doctor must be consulted. The lecturer focused on taking care of school students and accustoming them to healthy, balanced food at an early age to maintain an ideal weight, and educating society about the dangers of obesity and changing the food pattern at home to raise generations that reduce the rate of obesity.
The official of the Women’s Empowerment Unit, Assistant Lecturer Farah Abdel Razzaq, added that the lecture came out with several recommendations, including daily sports activity, a balanced diet, controlling the quantity and type of food consumed, and plenty of vegetables and fruits.
