A diploma study at the College of Medicine at Basra University discussed (the effect of delayed pregnancy beyond forty weeks on the health of both the mother and the fetus) by student Saba Abdul Mahdi. The aim of the research was to know whether delayed pregnancy beyond forty weeks has a negative effect on the health of the mother and the fetus, and the message concluded that delaying pregnancy after forty weeks affects the mother’s health as the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage and vaginal and perineal tears increases as well as affects the health The fetus, where the incidence of staining of amniotic fluid in the lick increases, the incidence of meconium aspiration syndrome and the need to enter them into the premature ward, as well as the incidence of cesarean section increases.
The researcher recommended that pregnant women should be encouraged to visit primary health care centers from the start of pregnancy in order to correctly determine the period of pregnancy, and therefore the incidence of delayed pregnancy beyond forty weeks can be reduced.
