The two teachers at the Qurna College of Education at the University of Basra, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Mushtaq Jari and the teacher Ammar Abdel-Jabbar, published a research entitled Synthesis of 5-benzyl-5-((5-nitropyridin-3-yl) methyl) -1,3,5-dithiazinan- 5-day through one-pot reactions, characterization and study as a corrosion retardant in high salinity oil fields. In the Journal of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, this study included the preparation of a new heterocyclic compound using an effective, simple and environmentally acceptable method, which is domino reactions. The prepared compound contains heterogeneous atoms, namely oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur, which were introduced into the chemical structure in one step consisting of several transformations. The prepared compound was characterized using several techniques such as infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry. The prepared molecule was studied as a corrosion inhibitor of carbon steel (N-80) which is generally used in oil fields. The effectiveness of the compound was studied as a corrosion inhibitor in the salty water that accompanies the extraction of crude oil, as that water contained dissolved solids estimated at 239,581 mg/L.
