The doctoral thesis of the student Youssef Mohsen Hassan, University of Basra, College of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, was discussed, entitled Design, Analysis and Implementation Filtenna Systems For Cognitve Radio Applications.
This study focuses on the design, analysis and manufacture of three filter systems for cognitive radio applications to avoid unwanted interference with other wireless applications and unnecessary sensing out of range.
The first type was designed and manufactured for use in networked cognitive radio applications. This system consists of two frequency-retunable communications filters and another filter for sensing the frequency spectrum. The second type of Feltina system was designed and manufactured for use in basic cognitive radio applications, where it acts as a sharp filter to avoid interference with some critical applications that are already in the UWB spectrum.
As for the third model, a single reconfigurable filter was designed and manufactured with three modes (ultra-band sensing mode and two narrow-band communications modes).
These systems aim to optimize the use of the frequency spectrum and reuse it by the secondary user.
The results showed that these filter systems outperform previous antenna designs in terms of system size, gain values, and blocking for critical UWB applications.
