Dentistry College at Basra University held a scientific lecture entitled "Oral field of cancerization", which talks about oral cancer, which is unknown to some. It is a type of cancerous tumor, also known as oral cavity cancer, which may affect any part such as the lips, gums, tongue, inner part of the cheeks or even the roof of the mouth.
Dr. Ahmed Mustafa Al-Tamah explained: “Oral cancer often affects people over the age of 40 and affects men more than women."
Al-Tamah pointed out the factors affecting the incidence of this type of cancer, including: smoking or chewing tobacco, drinking alcohol, a weak immune system, malnutrition, poor oral hygiene, and gum disease.
The lecture aims to prevent the disease by maintaining the safety and health of the mouth, by following a healthy lifestyle and visiting a doctor who specializes in maxillofacial surgery in the event that a strange shape appears inside the mouth to conduct periodic examinations on a regular basis.
