The Division of Orthopedics and Traumatology/Surgery Branch at the College of Medicine and Al-Zahra Medicine, University of Basra, and the Advisory Committee for Orthopedics and Traumatology, Basra Health Department, and under the sponsorship of Eva Pharma, held the first session of its conference entitled “Musculoskeletal Aspects of Sickle Cell Disease.” The conference was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Al-Zahra, Professor Dr. The respected Mazen Hawaz Abdul Redha, the head of the surgery branch, the respected Professor Dr. Faleh Waheed Hashem, and the respected assistant lecturer, Ibrahim Iyad Jihad.
In the first session, Dr. Khaled Al-Idrissi and Dr. Ahmed Fakher presented an introduction to sickle cell anemia and the genetic factors that cause it, and Dr. explained. Alia Muhammad, how to deal with sickle cell patients with bone diseases at the Basra Center for Hereditary Blood Diseases. The rest of the professors discussed the reason for the increase in infection among those infected. Professor Dr. Thamer Ahmed Hamdan also explained the most important things related to the complications of the disease, especially the deterioration of the spinal cord and how to reduce those complications.
