Sponsored by Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem, President of the University of Basra, and under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Muhammad Asghar Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, in coordination with the Basra Police Command, in cooperation with the College of Fine Arts at the University of Basra, and under the supervision of the College’s Community Health Branch.
The College of Nursing at the University of Basra organized a symposium on combating the danger of drug abuse and the problem of drug addiction, in coordination with the Basra Police Command and in cooperation with the College of Fine Arts, on Tuesday, 3/5/2024, in which the jurist Brigadier Muhammad Hatem Hassan from the Basra Police Command and Professor Dr. Tariq Al-Adhari from the Basra Police Command lectured. College of Fine Arts, the teacher is Dr. Firas Abdel Qader, Head of the Community Health Branch, the teacher is Afkar Fadel Karim, the head of the Nursing Basics Branch, and the teacher is Dr. Hisham Hussein Abdel Raouf, Head of the Examination Committee.
The symposium included several topics, including the definition of drugs, their types and divisions, symptoms of drug abuse, the harms of drugs from a health, psychological, social and economic perspective, the role of the family and society in eliminating drug addiction, and methods of drug prevention.
The symposium aimed to clarify the dangers of drug abuse on humans and society, especially by young people, and the necessity of raising awareness and education about its dangers and tightening penalties regarding their circulation and abuse. The symposium recommended the necessity of spreading awareness and culture by holding conferences, seminars and workshops in this field to clarify what drugs and stimulants do to the life of society and kill them.
For his part, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing, praised the efforts made by the organizing committee of the symposium and all participating teaching staff, praising their attempts to provide the best services in light of the available capabilities, wishing them continued success and brilliance in service to our dear university. At the conclusion of the symposium, certificates of participation were distributed. Appreciation for lecturers.
