
Dentistry College at Basra University, in cooperation with the Women's Affairs Unit and the Legal Division, organized an awareness lecture on the psychological effects of drug abuse and methods of prevention and treatment.
The lecture aims to address the problem of drug abuse and the psychological effects resulting from its impact, the reasons that lead to abuse, the types of drugs spread in society at the present time, to avoid them and learn about them, the importance of continuous education by the family and institutions to limit their spread, treatment methods from the medical and psychological side and methods of rehabilitating the abuser.
The lecture, which was attended by the lecturer at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine, Dr. Abbas Juma Hamdan, Director of the Drug Control Unit at Basra University, included relying on early awareness by showing the danger of drugs to the individual and the community around him and urging them to reject them by all means, as well as educating the families to their children, especially during adolescence and young adulthood, about the dangers of drugs and the form in which the user reaches them.
The lecture recommended explaining the role of sport in getting rid of addiction, due to its major role in treating stress, anxiety, depression and mental illness, in addition to its work in stimulating the body to produce some chemicals that help develop positive feelings, in addition to that it generates many physical and mental benefits for its practitioners to enjoy with a healthy body, free of all diseases and able to play his role in building himself, his family and society.
