The College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Chemistry, discussed a master’s thesis entitled Synthesis and spectroscopic and biological study of some new azomethine complexes derived from methyl-4-aminobenzoate.
The thesis presented by the researcher (Ghofran Abdel Karim Mardan) included the goal of synthesizing four ligands for scavenging bases derived from the amine (methyl-4-aminobenzoate) with some aldehydes, and their complexes with copper (II) and cobalt (II). They were characterized by various spectroscopic methods, and some tests were conducted on them. Spectroscopic studies of prepared Schiff base ligands, such as studying their UV-visible spectra, calculating ionization constants with different acidic solutions, and studying the effect of some types of solvents of different polarity on their absorption peaks.
The lecture concluded with its applications, such as studying the biological antibacterial activity on all these ligands and their complexes, and studying their effect on cancer cells of lung cancer type (A549).
