Basra University witnessed the ceremony of raising the black banner (Ya Hussein), heralding the arrival of the month of Muharram, with the attendance of many professors and students of the university and the participation of a delegation from the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein.
Raising this banner comes within the program prepared by the Human Resources Development Department at the Youth Care Center at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, under the slogan "Labbaik Ya Hussein".
A member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein and head of the delegation said: "We are living these sad days, the painful anniversary of the tragedy of Ashura, as we raise the banner of sadness and grief in various Iraqi universities and institutes, in cooperation with the Husseini Processions Authority in Basra Governorate, and we will be keen to repeat this practice in the coming years because it brings to mind the immortal epic of Karbala and brings goodness and blessings to the place where it is raised at the same time."
The President of Basra University, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, stated: "Today, Basra University was honored to raise this banner, and we are honored to be among the servants of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)", expressing his satisfaction with the delegation of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein raising the black banner (Ya Hussein) in the university building. The Dean of Dentistry College, Professor Assistant Dr. Fateh Abdul-Saheb Al-Khaqani, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs attended the ceremony and thanked the General Secretariat of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein for its initiative to raise the banner of eternity in the sky of Basra University, hoping that this program will be repeated in the coming years, which in turn will reflect on the students from the scientific and intellectual aspects and will consolidate the Husseini concepts among the student community.
