Dentistry College at Basrah University has established the Department of Medical Microbiology for the current academic year 2024/2025.
Professor Dr. Salman Sahib Atshan explained that the Department of Medical Microbiology includes the study of medical bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology and immunology, including the nature of pathogenic microorganisms and how to control them through routine and modern methods of diagnosing them and performing appropriate treatments for them.
Atshan also indicated that the department hosts postgraduate studies with a Master's degree in Oral Microbiology to contribute to preparing graduates capable of describing the epidemiology of infectious microorganisms, including how these diseases are transmitted and preparing competent researchers in all fields of medical microbiology by focusing on rapid diagnosis and the mechanism of innovating appropriate treatments for antibiotic-resistant isolates in the service of the public good.
