The College of Nursing at the University of Basra organized a workshop on the role of the university in raising awareness of human rights for university students
In which lecturers Dr. Fatima Jassim Muhammad, Assistant Professor, and Riyadh Hussein Taqi, faculty members, lectured.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the importance of human rights for sustainable development. The lecturers explained that students are the leaders of the future and their awareness of their rights and duties within the law is the real guarantee for the growth and progress of society. The workshop addressed terms related to the subject such as the university, cultural and social rights, as well as the stages of development of human rights in the world and Iraq, in addition to the issues that affected human rights. The workshop emphasized the steps that must be taken by the university to develop the rights of university students, which include exploiting occasions related to human rights and coordinating with civil society organizations to raise awareness of human rights, women's rights and children's rights by holding seminars and workshops, developing human rights curricula and benefiting from the positive aspects of the experiences of advanced countries in this field and preparing and training competent instructors to teach the subject.
