.A scientific study prepared by lecturer Mohammed Qahtan Nima Al-Ghalbi at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra and R. Engineers Alaa Abdullah Ali Al-Obaidi from the Ministry of Water Resources and Dr. Haider Abdul Amir Al-Thamri from the University of Baghdad investigated the hydraulic impact of the proposed cut-off dam on the Shatt al-Arab in the Siba area.
Lecturer Mohammed Qahtan Al-Ghalbi said that the study, which was conducted in cooperation with researchers from the Ministry of Water Resources and the University of Baghdad, investigates the hydraulic impact of the proposed cut-off dam on the Shatt al-Arab in the Siba area to prevent the penetration of salt tides due to the scarcity of water revenues.
Al-Ghalbi added that the proposed discharges will significantly affect the navigational depths of the river, especially in cases of programmed opening, as levels will decrease by about (0.6 - 1.2) meters compared to the normal situation, and the speed in front of the proposed dam will decrease from normal rates, which will lead to an increase in the amount of sediment in the riverbed
