Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazim, President of Basra University, and under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Muhammad Asghar Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at Basra University, and in coordination with the Basra Police Command, Anti-Narcotics Department, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing at Basra University organized a symposium on drugs and their psychological, social and economic effects, in which Colonel Fouad Al-Asadi, an expert in drug and psychotropic substances affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Baqir Dawood, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Lecturer Afkar Fadhel Karim, Head of the Nursing Basics Branch, and Lecturer Dr. Firas Abdul Qader, Head of the Community Health Branch, lectured. The symposium included several topics, including defining drugs, their types and divisions, symptoms of drug abuse, the harms of drugs from a health, psychological, social and economic perspective, the role of the family and society in eliminating drug addiction, and methods of preventing drugs. The symposium aimed to clarify the dangers of drug abuse on humans and society, especially by young people, and the need to raise awareness and educate about its dangers and tighten penalties for its circulation and abuse. The symposium recommended the need to spread awareness and culture by holding conferences, seminars and workshops in this field to clarify what drugs and stimulants do to the lives of society and destroy them. For his part, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing, praised the efforts made by the organizing committee of the symposium and all participating teaching staff, praising their attempts to provide the best services in light of the available capabilities, wishing them continued success and brilliance in the service of our dear university.
