The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra organized an interactive lecture for fifth-year students on alternative methods to Systemic Water Fluoridation.
The interactive lecture aims to highlight the importance of using fluoride in preventing tooth decay and strengthening the enamel layer, the outer layer of teeth, and making it more resistant to decay.
The interactive lecture, which was supervised by the lecturer, Sara Wadih Hashem, included that water fluoridation is a successful method for preventing tooth decay. In the absence of piped water supplies, as is the case in rural areas, there are alternative methods for providing water that contains fluoride systematically. These alternatives are school water fluoridation, home water fluoridation, and food fluoride supplements through fluoridated tablets, drops or lozenges, fluoridated salt, fluoridated milk or juice.
The interactive lecture recommended the necessity of using fluoride, whether in water, milk, salt, or other methods, due to its importance in preventing tooth decay and tooth sensitivity.
