Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab.
The Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Women's Affairs and Educational Guidance Unit at the college, organized a scientific symposium on rejecting extremism (a study of its causes and ways to address it) on Wednesday (12/18/2024), in which lecturers were given by Lecturer Dr. Fatima Jassim Muhammad, Assistant Lecturer Iman Taha Abdul Hassan, Lecturer Duaa Muhammad Baji, Lecturer Farhan Laith, Assistant Lecturer Firas Hadi, and Assistant Lecturer Riyad Hussein, in the presence of a number of professors and first-stage students.
The symposium addressed several axes, the most important of which are Awareness of the causes and shedding light on the causes and factors leading to extremism and violence, whether social, psychological, or economic. The second axis addressed enhancing understanding, clarifying the seriousness of these phenomena and their negative effects on individuals and societies. The third axis addressed proposing solutions and discussing effective methods for addressing extremism and violence, through educational, social, and media policies.
The fourth axis addressed enhancing constructive dialogue: opening a space for discussion between researchers, experts, and the public, to exchange views on ways to prevent and combat these phenomena. The fourth axis dealt with developing positive values: promoting the values of tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among members of society.
The symposium aimed to introduce students to the concept of violence and extremism and their impact on society and to increase awareness to help students understand these phenomena in depth
And to enhance intellectual immunity by providing students with the knowledge that enables them to confront extremist ideas and distinguish between constructive and destructive thought, and to build an aware society as well as preparing a generation that contributes to rejecting violence and extremism and participates in building a cohesive and prosperous society The symposium recommended spreading the culture of peace, understanding, and values of tolerance in society by raising awareness of the dangers of extremism and violence and the reasons for their spread, and encouraging the adoption of effective methods to confront and address them in a way that contributes to building a safe and stable society.
