The College of Education for Girls at the University of Basra organized a symposium on the weather effects of shallow and deep highs for the season (2004-2005) over Iraq.
The symposium aimed to show the weather effects of shallow and deep highs based on daily readings for the season from September (2004) to August (2005) for normal temperatures, atmospheric pressure and relative humidity at (12) noon.
The symposium, in which Dr. Hasna Khazal Mawazi lectured
and lecturer Nabaa Kareem Ahmed Al-Rabiah, dealt with tracking the type of shallow and deep highs at levels (1000) and (850) millibars through analyzing weather maps for daytime observations (1200) GMT over the study stations of Mosul, Baghdad and Basra for the Siberian high, the European high and the subtropical high, and it was found that the number of days of highs remaining in the secondary centers state was low, compared to the number of days of highs remaining in the deep extensions state. The shallow extensions greatly affected the highlands in Iraq's climate due to high temperatures, low relative humidity, precipitation of all kinds, and drought with high atmospheric pressure values.
