The University of Basrah organizes a scientific seminar on the drug epidemic and its societal and health risks
The College of Administration and Economics - Qurna at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar titled "The Drug Epidemic and Its Risks on Societal and Health Levels" on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the dangers of drugs and their negative effects on society and public health, in addition to raising awareness among youth about the importance of preventing this epidemic and combating it on all levels.
The seminar included several main topics. Dr. Arfat Nasser Al-Yousef, a lecturer, provided a detailed explanation about the social and economic impacts of drugs, while Major Ali Jawad Kazem, Media Officer at the Fourth Border Command, addressed the security aspects and mechanisms of combating drugs. Additionally, the religious guide Sheikh Waddad Abdul Ghafar Hamid delivered a lecture on the role of religious and moral values in preventing this epidemic.
The seminar concluded with a discussion session where faculty members and students participated, providing a set of recommendations to enhance awareness efforts and coordinate with relevant authorities to reduce the spread of drugs in society.
