The College of Nursing at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Basra, organized a workshop on “Basics of First Aid for Choking and Loss of Consciousness, Burns and Severe Wounds”, which was lectured by Lecturer Ali Malik, a faculty member, and the target group was employees of the University of Basra.The workshop also included a number of topics, including the importance of training in first aid. The workshop dealt with several topics in a theoretical and practical manner, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid for choking, wounds and burns, how to save the patient, protect the paramedic while providing assistance, and avoid complications until the medical team arrives and the injured person is transferred to the hospital. The attendees participated in the practical training and expressed their happiness with the ease of first aid, which was previously a barrier of fear that prevented providing assistance to others.The workshop aimed to learn the basic principles of first aid and how to deal with the injured using the simplest available means to save the injured person's life and avoid complications of the injury. The lecturers called for the necessity of urging employees and students to participate in first aid courses to be trained to provide assistance to the injured and how to deal with each case and avoid complications that lead to the death of the injured person or permanent disability until the medical team arrives.
