The College of Nursing at the University of Basra participated in a workshop on the Bologna system for the period from 2/13/12/2025, which was hosted by the University of Rabbat Barin in Sulaymaniyah Governorate for nursing colleges in Iraq.The University of Basra was represented by Lecturer Afkar Fadhel Karim, Head of the Nursing Fundamentals Department, and Assistant Lecturer Muhammad Kazim Mutasher, Director of Student Affairs and Registration at the College of Nursing.The lecture was presented by Professor Dr. Jamal Ali, Professor Dr. Rabwar Muhammad, and Professor Dr. Barzan Muhammad
In which they discussed how to manage the change process and what are the problems and challenges of the current Iraqi higher education system, and the reasons for moving towards the Bologna path in the education system.
It is noteworthy that the Bologna system will be adopted starting from the academic year 2024-2025 for first-year students. The workshop included a detailed explanation of the requirements that must be met to implement the Bologna system and how to prepare study materials by scientific committees in scientific departments exclusively and in a manner that suits the labor market according to ECTS units and what are the methods that must be followed to make this experiment successful in cooperation by instructors and students as well as teaching staff according to a ministerial electronic system. The workshop included getting acquainted with and training on filling out the four ministerial appendices for the Bologna Path Guide. In addition, it was addressed how to ensure the quality of this educational path. At the end of the workshop, the ways to integrate the Bologna Path and the current educational system were discussed to ensure the quality of education in Iraq primarily and in a record period.
