A capable medical team headed by the Dean of the University of Basrah - College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Nawfal Ali Al-Mubarak, Consultant Surgeon Dr. Ahmed Najm Al-Amara, and a team of endocrinologists at the Basrah Health Department / Al-Faihaa Specialized Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes were able to perform a rare and super-major operation to remove an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma) for a 55-year-old patient from Dhi Qar Governorate.
The medical team stated that the tumor was large and attached to the left kidney and its main artery. The operation was successful during which the left adrenal gland and kidney were removed with the tumor.
It is worth noting that adrenal gland tumor removal operations are considered a special and require an integrated and experienced medical team (endocrinology, anesthesia and general surgery) to make the necessary preparations before the operation and post-operative care.
