The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah has organized a symposium entitle (Foot and Mouth disease,between Reality and Media Exaggeration).
The symposium aimed to explain theFMD and it causes and spread, as well as the dominated strains in Basrah province.
The symposium was given by Dr. Kamal Al-Deen Al-Saad and Dr. Zainab Majeed from the Basrah Veterinary Hospital. The symposium included the definition of the disease, animal species affectedwith the disease, severity of the disease, possible prevention program (vaccination). The presenters have addressed the extent of disease in the region and more importantly the media magnification regarding FMD spread. They also referred to the effort of agriculture and veterinary authorities in controlling this disease through investigation, immunisation, and educational campaigns for animal owners and the community, with elucidation the FMD is impossible to be transmitted from animals to humans.
