I researched a master’s thesis at the Qurna College of Education at the University of Basra, entitled The Life of the Nymphs and their Relationship to the Pollution of the Water of North Basra Areas with Heavy Metals and Oil.
The thesis presented by student Nawras Khalaf Khader Al-Moussawi aimed to study the effect of pollutants in the aquatic environment on the life cycle of nymphs, their importance in biological control as they are among the most important predators of mosquitoes that transmit many diseases, and the possibility of using these insects as biological evidence.
The message included collecting samples from six stations in different locations north of Basra, measuring physical and chemical factors, calculating population density in the field, then raising nymphs, following them up, and measuring pollutants in the water in the laboratory.
The message concluded that the water in the areas is polluted in general, and that the nymphs have endurance ranges that enable them to live in somewhat polluted environments.
