The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a lecture titled "Association of Vitamin D and Dental Care in Children" as part of its continuing education program.
The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of vitamin D, one of the best and most important vitamins for strong teeth in children, as it plays a key role in calcium absorption. It also helps improve mineral density and strengthens bones and teeth.
The lecture, presented by Dr. Hiam Salah Ahmed, addressed the importance of vitamin D, which is a vital element for healthy teeth and bones. Its deficiency leads to major health problems, especially with regard to dental development in children. Vitamin D deficiency significantly affects dental health in children, increasing the likelihood of tooth decay, weak tooth enamel, and delayed tooth growth.
The lecturer recommended ensuring that children get adequate amounts of vitamin D through exposure to sunlight and consuming foods rich in it, such as milk, breakfast cereals, and orange juice, as well as nutritional supplements to maintain dental health.
