Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab, and within the framework of implementing the Third National Plan for Women, Security, and Peace 2025, the Women's Affairs Unit and the Continuing Education Unit at the college organized a workshop on the need to choose scientific majors appropriate for women and the requirements of the labor market. The workshop featured lectures by Assistant Professor Dr. Rafif Abdul-Hafiz al-Riyahi, Department of Psychological Sciences, College of Education for Girls, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima Jassim Muhammad, Head of the Women's Affairs Unit at the college.The workshop addressed three main themes, the most important of which are: the need to identify scientific majors that are compatible with the needs of the labor market for women; the importance of strengthening the role of women in scientific disciplines and their role in community development; and a review of best practices and programs supporting women's empowerment in various scientific disciplines.The workshop also discussed objective measures of women's success in academic sciences, equality, opportunities and challenges, determinants of success, the work environment in applied sciences (medical and technology, science, engineering and mathematics) for female researchers, and efforts to highlight their role and examine the challenges they face while conducting their research, as well as work-life balance.
