Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, participated in the regular meeting of the Deans' Committee of Nursing Colleges in Iraq for the 2025/2026 academic year, which was held at the College of Medical Technology and Health/Department of Nursing at the Duhok Polytechnic University.
The meeting was attended by deans of nursing colleges from various Iraqi universities. Several topics related to developing the educational process in nursing colleges and raising the level of professional performance of nurses in Iraq were discussed. Several important issues were also addressed, including:
Progress is underway to complete preparations for the implementation of the Bologna Process in Iraqi nursing colleges, beginning next year (2025-2026). Discussing the mechanism and feasibility of implementing a comprehensive examination for all educational levels in the College of Nursing and obtaining approvals for the assignment of holders of master's and doctoral degrees in the health sector to fill the teaching shortage in nursing colleges. The meeting also aims to establish a College of Nursing in the Kurdistan Region to fill the shortage of university nursing staff in the eastern part of the region. The meeting also emphasizes the progress of work to obtain national accreditation for nursing colleges in all universities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, by completing preparations, addressing weaknesses, and improving practical training programs for nursing students to ensure their readiness for field work after graduation.
Alongside many other topics, the meeting aims to develop nursing development programs in Iraq.
