Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, and as part of a series of scientific lectures for sustainable medical education to develop students' skills, the College's Continuing Education Unit organized a scientific symposium on infection control in delivery rooms and methods of disposing of medical waste. The symposium featured Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Baqir Dawood, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Lecturer Dr. Kholoud Abdul Karim, and Assistant Lecturer Zainab Alaa Abdul Latif.
The symposium addressed sterilization methods, contamination control, how to handle medical waste, and standard precautions for infection prevention for new nursing staff and midwives working in delivery and operating rooms.For her part, Dr. Sundus Baqer Dawood explained that the aim of the symposium is to continue holding these lectures and seminars, which is to train students and new nursing staff and teach them methods of sterilization, hand washing and how to deal with medical waste. She added in her talk about standard precautions to prevent infection, which is the minimum precaution that must be taken regardless of whether the patient is infected with infectious diseases or not, and includes modern methods of sterilizing surgical instruments in operations to eliminate and reduce germs and the use of hand washing preparations when receiving the patient.
