Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad al-Nawab, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, organized an awareness seminar entitled "Gender Identity: Between Women's Rights and Identity Distortion." Lecturers included Farhan Laith Ayez, Assistant Lecturer Zainab Alaa Abdul Latif, and Research Assistant Nours.
The seminar addressed the concept of gender and its causes from physical, psychological, and religious perspectives, as well as the fundamental elements that have contributed to the spread of this phenomenon in Arab and Islamic societies in particular. The seminar aimed to introduce participants to the historical origins of the concept of gender, its stages of development, and its current emergence, which calls for the distortion of human identity through the use of hollow slogans that ostensibly advocate for equality and freedom, but intrinsically promote destructive ideas within society and the family.
The symposium recommended the need to confront this phenomenon and arm ourselves with knowledge to combat such phenomena that are alien to our Islamic societies by spreading knowledge and holding seminars and lectures that contribute to raising community awareness about them in order to limit their spread.
