The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basra discussed a doctoral thesis entitled (A physiological study on the effect of sodium chloride salt and the role of hydrogen peroxide and thiourea in the growth of wheat plant (Triticum aestivum L.)
It included the thesis presented by the researcher Radwan Abdel Baqer
Treating wheat plant seeds with solutions of hydrogen peroxide and thiourea and studying their role in tolerating salt stress.
The thesis is aimed
Studying the role of pre-treatment of seeds with hydrogen peroxide and thiourea in the extent of tolerance to salt stress induced by different concentrations of sodium chloride salt, by studying the characteristics of vegetative growth and some physiological and biochemical parameters as well as studying the effect of pre-treatment with hydrogen peroxide and thiourea solutions on the relative expression of two genes of shock proteins. Thermocouple HSP101 and HSP70 under salt stress conditions.
The thesis concluded
The pre-treatment of the seeds of the wheat plant with hydrogen peroxide and thiourea led to a clear improvement in the vegetative growth of the wheat plant. The pre-treatment of the seeds with hydrogen peroxide and thiourea contributed to an increase in the plant's tolerance to salt stress, and this was to stimulate the antioxidant system and increase the encoding of heat shock proteins.
The thesis recommended
The study recommended adopting the practice of pre-treatment of seeds as a pre-sowing procedure due to its preventive and catalytic role in improving plants' tolerance to stress conditions resulting from increased salinity or lack of water supplies.
