A master’s thesis at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, conducted a comparative study on the effect of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on tendon healing after inducing an Achilles tendon injury in local dogs.
The thesis, presented by student Hajar Siwan Haddad, aimed to conduct a comparative study on the therapeutic effects of these substances on a surgically induced Achilles tendon defect in dogs, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these materials in accelerating the healing process.
The study involved the use of clinical and gross examination criteria, complete blood counts, ultrasound evaluations, and histopathological biopsies to determine the impact of these substances on tendon healing. The results showed a positive effect compared to the control group.
