Under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Majid Asghar Muhammad Al-Nawab, the Continuing Education Unit, as part of the Community Nursing Branch's activities, organized a scientific lecture on drowning and choking. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Abdul Qader Jassim, Head of the Community Health Branch; Professor Dr. Sajjad Salem Issa; Associate Professor Dr. Hisham Hussein Abdul Raouf; and Assistant Professor Hajar Salem Issa, all faculty members at our college.The lecture addressed the definition of drowning and choking, clarifying the difference between them, explaining the causes and factors leading to drowning and choking, describing the distinctive signs and symptoms of drowning and choking, and identifying the potential complications that may result from both drowning and choking.The lecture included proper application of first aid in drowning cases, as well as steps for quickly responding to a choking situation (such as the Heimlich Maneuver). In addition to assessing the injured person's condition and determining the need for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
