The College of Dentistry at the University of Basra held a scientific lecture on the use of bacterial antibiotics in the treatment of fungal infections (fact or myth) as part of a series of lectures at the Second International College of Dentistry Conference entitled "The Latest Developments in Modern Dentistry."
The scientific lecture, delivered by Dr. Atika Mohammed, aimed to determine the validity of the use of bacterial antibiotics in the treatment of fungal infections, and whether it is a scientific fact or a clinical myth used by some despite its flaws.
The lecture included a presentation of clinical studies demonstrating the use of some antibacterial drugs, such as tetracycline (as mouthwash or other forms), to treat fungi, and their effectiveness when other alternatives are unavailable or when used as an adjunct to other medications in severe immunodeficiency disease.
The lecture recommended that scientific information provided to others or published be reliable, complete, and supported by sources, especially if it is recent or controversial, to maximize its effectiveness.
