The College of Administration and Economics in Qurna, University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit and the Educational Guidance Unit, and in coordination with the Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) Cultural Center affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein and the Shiite Endowment Office, organized an awareness religious seminar titled “The Scourge of Drugs and Its Health and Societal Impact on the Life of University Students.”
The seminar aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of drugs from religious, health, and social perspectives. It covered definitions of drugs, reasons behind their use among university students, types of drugs, and ways to contact security authorities to report cases of drug use or promotion on campus.
A group of respected religious scholars, representing the Imam Hussein Cultural Center and the Shiite Endowment Office, participated in delivering the seminar. They emphasized the vital role of religion in combating this scourge.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including: encouraging students to report drug use via confidential toll-free numbers; warning students against consuming food or beverages from unknown sources; educating families not to leave medications containing narcotic substances within youth’s reach; urging students to avoid bad company; and clarifying the economic and social consequences of addiction.
At the end of the seminar, the Dean of the College thanked the speakers and presented them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
