


University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Seminar on the Economic Implications of President Trump’s Customs Policy
The College of Administration and Economics – Qurna, at the University of Basrah, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Economic Implications of President Trump's Customs Policy at the International, Regional, and Local Levels” on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, held in the college’s main hall.
The seminar aimed to analyze the economic impacts of the protectionist trade policies adopted by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, and their repercussions on the global, regional, and particularly Iraqi economy amid current economic challenges.
The seminar was presented by the Dean of the College, Dr. Adnan Farhan Al-Jourani, alongside Prof. Dr. Sami Obeid Mohammed, Dean of the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, Assistant Prof. Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Zahid Qasim Badhan.
The event included four main themes: basic concepts of customs policies, analysis of the global trade repercussions, the impact of these policies on developing economies, and finally, projections of potential effects on the Iraqi economy.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the Dean of the College extended his appreciation to the lecturers, praising their academic efforts in shedding light on contemporary economic issues that affect both the region and Iraq.
