


University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Seminar on Smoking, Drugs, and Their Health Impact on Youth
The College of Administration and Economics in Qurna, in cooperation with the Health Center in Al-Suwailih, the Continuing Education Unit, and the Educational Guidance Unit, organized an educational seminar entitled “Smoking, Drugs, and Their Health Impact on Youth” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in the college’s main hall.
The seminar aimed to raise students' awareness about the dangers of smoking and drug abuse, highlight their negative physical and psychological health effects, emphasize the role of educational and health institutions in prevention and treatment, and promote healthy and positive alternative behaviors among youth.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including:
Intensifying awareness campaigns in universities and schools about the dangers of smoking and drugs.
Involving students in psychological and health counseling programs.
Cooperating with security and health authorities to reduce the spread of these issues.
Integrating anti-drug topics into academic curricula.
Activating the role of the family in monitoring, supervision, and continuous guidance.
At the end of the seminar, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Adnan Farhan Al-Jourani, thanked the lecturers and attendees for their engagement and contributions. He appreciated the efforts of the organizing and supporting bodies and stressed the importance of continuing to hold such events that aim to build a conscious and healthy generation capable of serving society.
