Basra University Sciences Center organized a lecture on the economic feasibility of the carbon capabilities of the mangrove project in Iraq.
The lecture by Dr. Ayman Abdel -Latif Chees, from the Center for Seapis, included
The vital role of mangroves plays in combating climate change through their superior ability to take carbon.
And the lecturer indicated that these trees are able to store ** up to five times the carbon ** compared to other forests, thanks to the density of their plants and their ability to keep carbon in the soil deposits.
Moreover, its interlocking roots not only provide a home to marine organisms, but also help in the stability of soil and prevent coast erosion, which enhances its integrated environmental role.
The aim of the lecture is to improve the environment and achieve sustainable development and raise awareness in the field of green economy, which contributes to diversifying the sources of the national economy through the returns of carbon.
