The course included theoretical and practical training by Dr. Fadhel Taama Abdul Redha and Dr. Sattar Aziz Ghamis, instructors at the Marine Science Center. They covered the basic concepts of biochemical tests used to identify and classify bacteria based on their metabolic activities and specific enzymes. Emphasis was placed on the importance of these tests in clinical diagnosis, particularly the IMViC test.
The clinical applications of these tests, common sources of errors, safety considerations, and the importance of quality control using control strains such as E. coli and K. pneumoniae were also reviewed. Other bacterial diagnostic systems, such as the API 20E, were introduced, and the components and operating mechanism of the VITEK 2 COMPACT device were also discussed.
The course aims to enable trainees to accurately diagnose various types of bacteria using traditional and modern methods, while adhering to occupational safety requirements when handling samples.
