OSCE Examination for Fourth-Year Students at Al-Zahraa College of Medicine: A Comprehensive Assessment of Essential Medical Skills
As part of its commitment to academic excellence and high-quality medical education, Al-Zahraa College of Medicine held a significant academic event on Wednesday, May 21, 2025—the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for fourth-year students. The examination was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Jawad Ramadan Fadel, Dean of the College, with the support of Lecturer Dr. Ihsan Mardan Hammoud, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, and the participation of the specialized faculty members.
OSCE is considered one of the most modern methods for evaluating students, aiming to measure their understanding of fundamental medical knowledge and assess their clinical and practical skills. During the examination, students underwent multiple assessment stages within specialized medical blocks, including:
- Cardiovascular & Respiratory Block: Evaluating diagnostic and treatment skills for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
- Endocrine & Nephrology Block: Assessing students' ability to manage endocrine and kidney-related disorders.
- Gastroenterology Block: Testing clinical competence in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal diseases.
- Musculoskeletal Block: Examining practical knowledge in handling musculoskeletal disorders.
The exam featured an intense academic atmosphere, with multiple assessment stations presenting realistic medical scenarios that simulate challenges doctors face in clinical practice. Students demonstrated notable proficiency in handling various cases, offering diagnostic and therapeutic solutions aligned with modern medical principles.
Dr. Jawad Ramadan Fadel emphasized that this type of examination serves as a cornerstone in preparing future doctors, enhancing their ability to make swift and accurate clinical decisions. Dr. Ihsan Mardan Hammoud also highlighted the importance of conducting frequent assessments to ensure graduates possess the necessary scientific and practical skills to serve the medical community with high efficiency.
