A master's thesis from the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering/College of Agriculture at the University of Basra examined the effect of alpha-tocopherol and the amino acid phenylalanine on vegetative and floral growth and the active ingredients of Mirabilis jalapa L.
The thesis, presented by graduate student Ali Hussein Katea Al-Hamdani and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Rasha Kazim Hamza and Professor Dr. Haider Subaih Shanu, aimed to study the effect of alpha-tocopherol and the amino acid on the vegetative and floral growth of the plant.
The thesis included a study of the effects of these factors on the plant's vegetative and floral characteristics, as well as their effect on the active ingredients present in the plant.
The study concluded that a concentration of 150 mg/L of both alpha-tocopherol and phenylenediamine had a significant effect on all studied traits. The study recommended that, given the limited number of studies on the Laleh Abbas plant and its aesthetic appeal and medicinal importance, it be cultivated and further studies conducted.
